Five Ferries Route Summary

This route can be driven in either direction – we started at Wemyss Bay and ended our adventure at Ardrossan.

We recommend going clockwise round the route, as there is no black waste disposal down at the south of Kintyre, but there is at Portavadie Marina.  The parkup at Dunaverty is the busiest we encountered, and this is another reason we would go clockwise, to get it out of the way and onto more remote and even more scenic spots later in the tour.

We travelled over this route in June/July 2021, when there were still many covid 19 restrictions in Scotland; we deliberately did not visit any indoor attractions or restaurants, however there are some museums and attractions in the areas we toured, which look well worth a visit.
